Ten years ago today, on Monday, August 20, 2012, as Muslims in Syria and worldwide were celebrating the second day of Eid al-Fitr, bulldozers moved to close all entrances and exits to the city of Darayya in Western Ghouta, so that Assad regime forces and militias could begin a 7-day mass cleansing campaign, in which more than 700 people were killed, including 524 women and children. The Yarmouk Palestinian refugee camp, south of the capital, Damascus, suffered the highest number of Palestinian-Syrian fatalities since the outbreak of the Syrian uprising for freedom in Syria 2011.

The news comes in the latest report from the Action Group for the Palestinians of Syria (AGPS).

In an interview with SY24, a spokesperson from the AGPS’ media office said that over a third of the 4,116 Palestinian refugees, 493 of them women, documented killed in various locations across Syria since 2011, died in Yarmouk camp.

Russian sources confirmed that Moscow has tested an upgraded version of its ‘Lancet’ suicide drones in Syria, adding this weapon to the series of weapons that Russia is testing over Syrian territory.

Russian media quoted an informed Russian military source as saying that “in the framework of these tests, a new version of the Lancet-3 suicide plane was used several times by Russian military units against terrorist sites in Syria”. This is the term used by the Kremlin for all Russian targets in Syria, including schools and hospitals.
